MAIDSTONE United midfielder Nathan Paul is recovering in a London hospital, after being attacked with a knife on Saturday night.

Paul, who was supposed to be celebrating his 21st birthday on Wednesday, has undergone two operations. His injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

Maidstone United chairman Paul Bowden Brown said: "We're totally shocked and disgusted by what's happened. He's not only a great fotballer, but a great lad, who shows so much respect.

"We're totally gobsmacked. We wish him a speedy recovery and offer our best wishes to his family."
