A swimming pool forced to close after its water quality levels dipped below the recommended levels has reopened.

Lockmeadow Health Club in Barker Road, Maidstone, shut its pool to customers on Wednesday, but welcomed back swimmers yesterday evening.

A spokesman for the club said: “We are pleased to confirm that the pool is open with immediate effect.

“We would like to share our massive thanks to the team who have immediately responded to the closure and made the pool safe for reopening, ahead of schedule, no less.

“We would also like to thank our members for their patience and understanding.

“We hope they recognise our unwavering ambition and no-compromise approach to provide them with a safe, constant and quality service.“

A spokesman for Serco Leisure, the operator of the complex, said on Wednesday prior to the reopening: “Since we took over the venue on June 23, feedback has been consistent that the pool’s water quality levels have improved significantly.

“We achieve this by carrying out regular and robust testing of the essential chemical parameters within the pool water, including external microbiological tests.

“Our latest readings show the water quality is just outside that of recommended levels, so we have closed the pool to rebalance the system – which is not unusual in commercial swimming pools.

“We’d like to reassure members that safety measures are monitored, and the necessary action taken to preserve the safe water quality and ensure all other parts of the facility remain open as normal.”

It comes in the same week the complex announced a change to its parking.

It is now free for members for up to three hours.
