A KENT holidaymaker has succeeded in her bid to save a stray dog she became attached to while on a trip to Greece last month.

Sally Skinner, from Maidstone, launched an appeal to save Scruffie after she learned he faced being poisoned at the end of the tourist season on Kos.

Mrs Skinner, 41, received an overwhelming response and now she was re-united with Scruffie in Kent as he was flown from Greece to begin a period in quarantine in Folkestone.

A few weeks ago Scruffie he was a stray, roaming the streets of the Greek island surviving on tit-bits offered by tourists and sleeping in a cardboard box.

An appeal in the Kent Messenger newspaper helped raise £1,500 towards Mrs Skinner's costs, and with the help of the Greek Animal Welfare Fund, she completed a remarkable fortnight by flying him back to the UK.

It is going to cost more than £3,000 to fund Scruffie's rescue and pay for his kennel care until he can move to Mrs Skinner's home in the Shepway area of Maidstone next April. Hundreds of people have already made donations to the Save Scruffie Fund, with one couple pledging £50 a month to help fund his stay in kennels.
