An emaciated terrier dog that was so weak it struggled to stand was found abandoned in a crate.

The female Patterdale terrier was discovered in Park Wood in Maidstone by a member of the public on Sunday afternoon (August 18).

She was taken to the vets and is being given treatment for a skin condition.

The terrier, who was named Sprout by vets, is around one to two years old and was not microchipped.

She was wearing a distinctive red collar which the RSPCA hopes will provide a clue in tracing her owner.

Sprout has since been moved to an animal centre to continue her road to recovery.

RSPCA inspector Kirsten Ormerod said: “The poor dog was in a poor body condition and suffering from mange.

“She was infested with fleas and the crate she was in was covered with her faeces.

“You could feel all her ribs and she had also suffered severe muscle wastage to back legs which left her so weak she struggled to stand.”
