Tonbridge lost out to the odd goal in five in an entertaining clash against Basingstoke at Longmead.

Tommy Warrilow's (pictured) new-look side, which included loan signings Michael Boateng and Kayne McLaggon from Bristol Rovers, were always chasing the game despite goals from Frannie Collin and Sonny Miles.

Shaun McAuley put the visitors ahead on 26 minutes straight from a corner. Tonbridge keeper Lee Worgan's appeals for a foul fell on deaf ears as he failed to get a hand on the cross.

Collin levelled the scores after the break on 53 minutes when his well-placed free-kick from the edge of the penalty area beat Basingstoke keeper Ashley Bayes into the top corner.

But the celebrations were short-lived as Basingstoke reclaimed the lead two minutes later through Nathan Smart. His cross from the right-hand side took a nasty deflection off a Tonbridge defender to leave Worgan with no chance.

The visitors stretched their advantage with six minutes to go as McAuley claimed his second of the afternoon. David Pratt exploited the gaps in the Tonbridge defence to pick out the striker with a perfect cross and allow McAuley to fire past Worgan.

Miles registered a consolation for the hosts a minute before time when he headed home Chris Henry's cross inside the six-yard box.

Substitute Robbie Kember was handed a late red card for a second bookable offence when he hauled down McAuley on the halfway line as Angels pressed for a late equaliser.

Tonbridge now find themselves in 15th ahead of Tuesday's trip to Eastbourne Borough.
