Another Kent town has been chosen to receive a multi-million pound investment in full fibre broadband.

CityFibre has named Maidstone as the next town to join its super fast network.

The company is set to invest £50 million new town-wide network that will bring fast and reliable full fibre-enabled internet services within reach of almost every home and business in the town.

Full fibre networks, unlike many of the copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services available today, use 100% fibre optic technology to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection.

This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth and connectivity users can depend on.

Construction work on the full fibre network will begin in January.

As work is completed in each neighbourhood, CityFibre will designate the homes ‘ready for service’, which means residents can choose to connect to full fibre-enabled broadband services when they go live in their area.

Area manager Anne Krausse will be responsible for overseeing the project, while also acting as the main point of contact for all stakeholders.

She said: “Our new full fibre network in Maidstone will strengthen the town’s digital infrastructure for decades to come, helping boost the local economy.

"The technology will not only unlock huge benefits for businesses, it will also allow residents to enjoy seamless streaming when gaming or watching movies at home.

"We’re excited for our builders to get to work on the installation, and for the local community to reap the benefits of full fibre technology.”

The announcement comes two months after Sittingbourne was named as the next town to join the super fast network.

Derek Murphy, Kent County Council’s cabinet member for economic development, added: “We welcome this investment in Kent’s broadband infrastructure.

"We look forward to seeing the benefits it will bring for our residents and businesses.”

In Maidstone, services will be available from an increasing range of broadband providers.

Across the UK, CityFibre is already working with launch partner Vodafone to supply full fibre infrastructure for customers on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, while TalkTalk, IDNet, Giganet, Zen and other providers are expected to join the network soon.
