Maidstone bridges improvement scheme roadworks cause delays

People attending Maidstone Hospital are being urged to leave extra time because of delays in Hermitage Lane caused by roadworks.

John Weeks NHS emergency planning and response manager took to Twitter to urged patients to take extra time when traveling to the facility off Hermitage Lane because of the disruption.

There is slow moving traffic on the A229 Royal Engineers Road heading into the town centre between junction six of the M20 and the gyratory system.

Drivers attempting to avoid the pre-construction work have also become ensnared on Hermitage Lane between the A20 and A26.

Temporary Signals at the junction with Fountain Lane have been put in place so sewer works can be carried out.

One driver Lisa Lomas tweeted she had been stuck for an hour in queues.

The roadworks will be in force until Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm each day. Two new northbound lanes will be built on the eastern side of the River Medway with new junctions controlled by traffic lights.

This will enable drivers to avoid the existing gyratory system.

Construction is due to start in June, lasting for almost a year.
