A PREGNANT spaniel carrying a litter of puppies may have been starved to death before being thrown into a bin bag and dumped in woods.

The emaciated pet was found by a dogwalker in woodland near Broad Street Hill, Maidstone, and the RSPCA was called.

An examination by a vet revealed the dog had been nearing the end of its pregnancy with six fully-formed puppies ready to be born. None survived.

RSPCA inspector Teresa Potter, said: “This poor dog was extremely thin and possibly died of starvation a day or so before she was found. We would like to hear from anyone who knows who this dog belonged to and how she came to be dumped.”

The dog’s owner, if found, could face up to six months in prison or a £20,000 fine if convicted of causing the animal unnecessary suffering.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA on 08705 555999. All calls will be treated in confidence.
