Commuters are warned to expect long delays this evening after a piece of the roof at London Bridge railway station blew onto the track.

Southeastern said services from London Bridge, Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations will be cancelled, delayed or diverted.

The rail firm previously warned that high winds caused by Storm Imogen could disrupt services.

London Bridge station is currently undergoing a multi-million pound upgrade project, which involves replacing the station's concourse and roof.

The station was initailly closed while safety checks were carried out, but has since reopened.

A Network Rail spokesman said the line has reopened however, there are delays as the service recovers.

The spokesman added: "Network Rail was alerted by a member of staff that a small area of the temporary roof at London Bridge had become loose and was flapping in the wind.

"While engineers carried out safety checks, services into these platforms were suspended."

Passengers can use Victoria, Blackfriars and Cannon Street as an alternative. Tickets are being accepted on London buses and the Underground.
