A group of travellers which arrived at a community recreation ground yesterday has been told to move on.

Caravans were spotted on the land off Gatland Lane in Fant, Maidstone, yesterday morning.

Officers from Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) visited the encampment to perform a site assessment and welfare check yesterday afternoon, which is a legal requirement.

A notice was then served to the travellers, requiring them to leave the land by 3pm today.

Cllr Matt Boughton, borough councillor for Fant, said: "I'm happy that a notice for eviction has been served and hope the travellers will respect this and leave. If not, a court order is the next course of action."
