Maidstone: Travellers set up camp in Cumberland Avenue, Shepway

Travellers have pitched up on playing fields in the middle of a residential estate.

A number of caravans remain at Cumberland Avenue in Shepway, despite being asked to move on earlier this month, when Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) was granted a section 77 order.

A spokesperson for MBC said: “We have attended the site and the unauthorised encampment is still present.

"This is in direct breach of the original court order served.

“We have given a direction for persons to leave the area by 4pm today.”
