Travellers have pitched up on the site of a former park and ride car park.

Caravans were first seen behind DFS in London Road, Allington near Maidstone at the weekend.

Travellers have set up home near the Park and Ride site, off the A20 London Road, Allington

The car park used to be the property of Maidstone Borough Council but is now owned by a family trust since the park and ride service was disbanded in 2022.

The council has been made aware of the trespassers and has informed the owners who are working to provide an eviction notice.

A council spokesperson said: “MBC Community Protection Team is working alongside Kent Police and representatives of the community, including elected Ward Members, to monitor the situation.

“The landowners are in the process of serving the eviction papers as per the prescribed process.

“The council anticipates that the encampment will be in place for a few days while private action is taken to move the encampment on to a more suitable location.”
