A makeshift memorial was created this week, in tribute to a homeless man from Maidstone who passed away.

Flowers, cards and candles were placed between Tiger and Halifax bank in Week Street, the spot where Dave Long used to sleep rough.

Tributes started to appear on Monday morning after news spread of his tragic death, which happened at Kings College Hospital in London on Friday.

One mourner wrote: “Dave, you are now with the angels. I will miss you so much.”

He was a well-known former client of homeless charity Maidstone Day Centre, based in Knightrider Street and matches have been left in the doorway for others to light a tealight in his memory.

It is not yet clear how he passed away.
