Two arrests after large amounts of meat and cheese seized by police near Bank Street, Maidstone

Allegations masses of stolen meat and cheese ended up being offered for sale on the street has led to two arrests.

Large quantities of Co-op branded seasoned steak and blocks of Cathedral City cheddar were seized by police patrols in Maidstone town centre yesterday evening (September 12).

An alert was initially raised by CCTV operators in the Bank Street area.

Officers attended a report of suspicious activity in the area and at around 5.30pm a 43-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of theft and taken into custody.

Carrier bags were recovered of suspected stolen goods, which also included chocolate.

They are believed to have been stolen from one or more Co-op stores and an investigation is ongoing.
