Two boys have been arrested after jewellery and Nepalese rupees were stolen in a suspect burglary.

Patrolling officers chased after the youngsters in Maidstone town centre on Saturday at around 8.20pm after they were alerted to suspicious behaviour nearby.

As police approached the boys near Union Street, they fled the scene but were stopped in nearby Church Street.

One of the boys, who was just 16, was arrested and searched. Jewellery, as well as the Nepalese currency, were discovered and seized.

A police spokesman added: “Inquiries linked the items to a burglary which happened earlier the same evening, at an address near Alkham Road.”

A second suspect, aged 18, was also stopped and arrested and both were taken into custody.

They have since been bailed, pending further inquiries, to return on May 8.
