A VAN driver has been killed in a crash on the M20 near Maidstone.

The accident happened when the van was in collision with an articulated HGV lorry on the coastbound carriageway, about a mile before junction 8, the Hollingbourne and Leeds Castle turnoff, at about 10.30am on Wednesday.

The lorry driver was taken to hospital but his injuries and condition are not known.

Police closed the motorway between junction 7 and 8, adding to earlier closures between junctions 8 and 9 and 11 and 12 as a result of Operation Stack.
