Firefighters called after vehicle bursts into flames in Royal Engineers Road, Maidstone

A dramatic picture shows a vehicle engulfed by flames after erupting into a fireball this morning.

Crews rushed to the scene in Royal Engineers Road, Maidstone, after the alarm was raised at about 8.10am.

Firefighters wearing breathing gear managed to extinguish the blaze shortly before 9am.

No injuries were reported.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “One fire engine attended the incident on the Medway-bound side of the road.

“Crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known but is believed to have been started in the vehicle’s engine.”
