It is described as the "loveliest castle in the world" – but maybe it’s the most romantic too.

Leeds Castle was a fitting place for one man to spring a surprise proposal on the woman of his dreams.

Richard Pollard enlisted the help of dozens of friends and relatives in an elaborate proposal to girlfriend Kim Whattler, who is originally from Gillingham.

Richard, originally from Leeds in Yorkshire, captured the whole thing, including her saying an emotional “yes” on camera, with Sugar by Maroon 5, a song they love.

The pair, who live in Perth, Australia, were visiting the UK for a wedding.

Kim said: “Little did I know that since February Richard and my sister Helen had been secret squirrelling with family and friends in both England and Perth and planned one amazing surprise proposal.

“As I made my way to the maze and saw my best friend I thought that was it but then followed more of my family and friends.

It wasn’t until I got over the shock of it all that I twigged the significance of the venue: he’s from Leeds and I’m from Kent, what better place to propose than Leeds Castle in Kent?”
