This was the scene when a jet of water burst 20ft into the air after a valve on an underground tap broke.

It is thought a contractor had been checking the pressure when a valve came away in his hand and the water erupted.

It happened outside KIND Hearing on the corner of Mill Street and High Street, Maidstone, at about 10.15am today.

Earlier in the week, an electricity cable blew leaving some traders without power for 15 hours.
