Weeping wife admits axe killing

Wadanhalugeder Chandrasekera is due to appear before Maidstone Crown Court again in April

A 58-year-old woman admitted killing her husband when she appeared before a judge at Maidstone Crown Court.

Wadanhalugeder Chandrasekera, of Port Close, Bearsted, near Maidstone, pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder.

She is due to stand trial on the more serious charge on July 10.

Sarath Chandrasekera died in Maidstone Hospital on October 23 last year from multiple injuries inflicted by an axe.

Chandrasekera, who was remanded in custody, smiled at people in the public gallery and then wept.

She will return to court on April 7 for a further brief hearing.
