New store to open in shop left empty when River Island moved from Week Street to Fremlin Walk in Maidstone

An opticians has its eye on the former River Island clothes store in Maidstone.

Specsavers is to move into the empty building in Week Street and promotional posters have appeared in the window while building work takes place inside.

The opticians is set to open at the end of September.

The Kent Messenger asked what will happen to the firm's current branch in the High Street, but so far no information has been received.

The Week Street shop has been empty since April when River Island relocated to a bigger unit in Fremlin Walk, formerly home to Next.

How the building used to look when River Island occupied the shop

River Island signed a lease with M&G Real Estate, which purchased the shopping centre in late 2014, committing to stay in Maidstone for 10 years.
