A woman who had been living in her car after being made homeless was arrested after officers found she had no insurance for the vehicle.

Ella Justice was not only using her car to get about but was also living in the Nissan Micra when police saw her on the A20 near Maidstone.

Officers then arrested her as she had no valid insurance to have the vehicle on the road.

The 23-year-old was later charged with using a vehicle without insurance and admitted the offence when she appeared before magistrates in Maidstone on June 6.

The court heard, Justice now of The Weavers, Headcorn, had been arrested after her car was seen by police on the A20, Ashford Road at Bearsted, on November 20 last year.

Defending herself she said: “I was homeless at the time and I had lost my job and I didn't have a phone to check and did not realise the payment had not come out.

“I was unaware and was living in the car at the time. It’s my mistake. I am now living with my grandparents and have a job now and will be earning £330 a week.”

Magistrates fined Justice £80 for the offence and endorsed her licence with six points and ordered she pay a victim surcharge of £112.
