Woman in river fall rescued

A WOMAN was taken to hospital after falling into the River Medway near Maidstone town centre.

The 33-year old woman is understood to have fallen off a boat into the river as it passed new flats being built on the north bank off St Peter's Street.

Emergency services were called at about 3pm yesterday with a workman at the site throwing the stricken woman a lifebouy to keep her afloat.

The woman, who was out of the water by the time the fire brigade arrived, was taken to Maidstone Hospital for treatment Her condition is not serious. Police are treating the incident as an accident.
