Police say they found the woman, who is in her 30s, at about 5.30pm and confirmed she had suffered “injuries consistent with stab wounds”.

A large cordon was set up by officers and the road was shut off for many hours, with forensics teams also called to the incident.

A 40-year-old woman from Chelmsford in Essex was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody.
