Appeal after bid to steal bicycles

POLICE are appealing for three people to come forward after an incident on Saturday when a man attempted to steal two bicycles chained up near the Gala Bingo Hall in Maidstone.

A member of the public flagged down a police patrol in Palace Avenue to explain that she believed a man was trying to steal the bikes.

Officers attended and arrested a man who has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

It is believed the owners of the bikes, a boy and a girl, may have attended the police station later on the same day but did not leave their names.

Police would like to hear from the woman who originally flagged down the police patrol, and also from the owners of the two bikes. Those individuals are asked to call PC Dave Riley via the Maidstone and Malling Area Crime Management Unit on 01622 608189, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 – this call is free and confidential.
