Police want to trace three good samaritans who helped an injured pensioner.

The 74-year-old man was left with serious injuries after an assault, later suffering a stroke.

Officers hope to speak to people who helped the man, at about 2pm on Saturday, April 13, in an underpass near Barclays bank in lower High Street.

Attempts have been made to trace the person who called emergency services, and a father and son who stopped to assist, but with no results.

The Kent Messenger issued a thank you to the trio on behalf of the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, shortly after the incident.

DC Simon Powell from Kent Police said: “We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault, but in particular we would like to trace the person who dialled 999 and the two who stopped to help the victim.

"They could provide us with crucial information and I would appeal for them to come forward and contact us.”

Elusive Matrix, a 43-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, June 28.
