Two teenage girls have been arrested and imitation firearms seized after armed police were called to a busy town centre.

Officers with guns and at least four police cars were spotted at the scene in Week Street, Maidstone.

A spokesman confirmed police, including firearms officers, were called at 2.45pm to a report a person had been seen possibly in possession of a weapon.

At around 3.30pm two teenage girls were arrested and taken into custody.

Imitation firearms were seized.

Video footage from the scene appears to show a person being arrested and a large crowd of onlookers gathered nearby.
