Arrest after pensioner road death

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after an elderly pedestrian died in a road collision.

Sydney Freeman, 75, from Shepway, Maidstone, died as he and his wife Ivy were walking home in Cumberland Avenue in the town on Thursday, June 26.

The couple were involved in a collision with a vehicle and Mr Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife was taken to hospital and treated for a broken ankle.

The man arrested has been bailed pending a decision to prosecute.
