Three men arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Maidstone town centre have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A 28 year old woman was reportedly attacked shortly before midnight on Thursday May 13 in an alleyway which runs between Gabriels Hill and Palace Avenue.

It is believed an allegation of rape has been made.

A 24 year old man was arrested soon after the incident and on Friday was being held in custody at Maidstone Police Station. Police later arrested three more men, aged 20 and 26, and 34.

They have all now been bailed until Wednesday June 30.

On Friday morning police had cordoned off the section of the alleyway around the corner from the Loft nightclub, which runs down to Palace Avenue - just yards from Maidstone Police Station.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Nigel Douglas at Maidstone Police Station on 01622 604280 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
