The former mayor of a Kent town has resigned as a councillor after being arrested as part of an investigation into computer-related crime.
Police have still not said exactly what Peter Hooper was arrested for. He resigned from Maidstone council, where he was cabinet member for corporate services, in a letter on Sunday.
He was a Liberal Democrat councillor and was Mayor of Maidstone in 2005.
The 55-year-old's details have also been removed from the council's website, as well as the site for the Maidstone and the Weald Liberal Democrats.
He has been bailed until May 8 pending further inquiries.
A spokesman for Maidstone Borough Council said: "Cllr Peter Hooper has resigned from the council with effect from March 30 and the vacancy will be filled at the next council elections on May 1."
