Four people have been arrested in connection with suspected looting from the burned wreckage of a chip shop.
Papa’s Barn on London Road, Ditton, was severely damaged by a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police said they were called to the site on Wednesday after suspicious activity was spotted near the wreckage.
Two wheelie bins filled with frozen food believed to be from the chip shop were seized, and more food was found when officers searched a home.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and remained in custody yesterday (Thursday). A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and were released on bail.
On Saturday, four fire crews - two each from Larkfield and Borough Green - were needed to bring the blaze under control. Its owners say the restaurant will have to be rebuilt before it can reopen.
An investigation into the fire has been carried out but due to the extent of the damage, the cause is unknown. However, a fire and rescue spokesman said it was not thought to be suspicious.

I have many happy memories of very tasty and enjoyable birthday and anniversary treats spent there over the years.”
