Police were called to East Malling Playing Field in New Road at 10.30pm last night after two men attempted to set fire to an oak table.

Officers used portable fire extinguishers to put out the blaze, which was started on a pile of newspapers left under the table near the village hall.

The fire is being treated as arson.

No arrests have been made in connection to the fire and police say enquiries are ongoing.
