An event which would have raised funds for neglected and abused dogs has had to be cancelled.

Bark in the Park, which was to be held in Mote Park, Maidstone, tomorrow morning, was to raise funds for the RSPCA's new rescue kennel sponsorship and would have involved a two-mile dog walk.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "We’re really upset at having to cancel but had no other alternative.

"Unfortunately we couldn’t get the necessary number of pre-registered participants and we therefore don’t have the necessary permissions to go ahead.

"We’re really sorry to have let anyone down."
