Find out more about the way the battle for hearts and minds was fought out at the time of the English Civil War.

The influence of print and propaganda during that period of English history will be the subject of a talk later this month, as part of celebrations to mark the 360th anniversary of the Battle of Maidstone.

The talk by historian and renowned author Jason Peacey is one in a series organised in the run-up to the anniversary celebrations to be held throughout the town from Friday, May 30 to Sunday, June 1.

The talk, sponsored by the Kent Messenger Group, will be held at the Maidstone Club, Earl Street, on Thursday, April 24, at 6.30pm.

It will be followed on Friday, May 30, by a talk by English Civil War expert Prof Richard Holmes at the Hazlitt Theatre.

He will regale his listeners with the events surrounding the Battle of Maidstone, considered to be one of the bloodiest of the English Civil War.
