Loyal villager and benefactor Pauline Moore has died.

Mrs Moore, who was a key figure in the Bearsted Woodland Trust, passed away on Monday, August 13, after a short illness.

The 88-year-old sat on the group's management team and was well respected by the community.

Mrs Moore, of Sutton Street, had pledged to bequeath 10 acres of her land to the trust.

Speaking in 2008, the stalwart said: "Before I did this, my problem was who would be a safe and trusted owner.

"One absolute concern was that it should never be built on. Now I know it will be looked after."
