A sixties weekend for Beatles fanatics is to be held in West Malling next year.
The Magical History Tour will include a fancy dress party night and a tour of places visited by the Fab Four during the making of the Magical Mystery Tour.
It’s designed to coincide with the 45th anniversary of the film’s release and the launch of a new book, Magical Mystery Memories.
Described as a must for all Beatles fans, the tour starts in Newquay, Cornwall on Friday, April 20, before winding its way to West Malling the next day.
The two towns feature prominently in the film where many of its scenes were shot.
A replica of the Magical Mystery Tour bus will carry passengers, some of whom will be extras who appeared in crowd scenes in the 1967 psychedelic classic.
Tim Baldock, who runs the Moor and Mountain ski store in West Malling, was a starstruck 20-year-old when he appeared as an extra in the film.
He’s helped organise the tour which he claims is a groundbreaker. “In terms of a Beatles commemorative event, this tour directly links these two filming destinations for the first time," he said.
West Malling Airfield, which is long disused, is the most visible local location in the film but shops in West Malling High Street also appear in a number of scenes.
Knole Park in Sevenoaks, where the band filmed Strawberry Fields, the first-ever pop promo, is also on the tour. The weekend costs £165. For details call 07970 721580 or email enquiries@magicalmysterytournewquay.co.uk
