If you were feeling chilly on Saturday you should have got down to Maidstone town centre for a dose of soul-warming jerk chicken or feijoada black bean hotpot.
The flavoursome dishes helped fuel the celebration in Jubilee Square for Black History month - which included music from local bands, Salsa, African storytelling, motivational speaking, and demonstrations of Brazilian martial art, Capoeira.
There was also a quiz on black history knowledge, a barber and hairdresser’s corner, a stall selling fashion and artefacts, and much more.
“It was fantastic - we really enjoyed it,” said organiser Ngaio Gollcorr, who recently launched the Maidstone Alliance for People of African Heritage with colleague Marlene O’Neil. “Considering the weather we were really happy with the turnout - the community came out to support us.
“The aim was to educate and celebrate, and we wanted the community to join us.”
She thanked businesses and organisations for their support.
