A speeding BMW driver who accelerated up to 70mph in a 40mph zone through a village has been apprehended.

When police pulled over the vehicle in Leeds, near Maidstone, officers discovered the driver had no insurance or valid MOT.

In a tweet, the force's road policing unit, said: "#RPU3 sighted this vehicle travelling through Leeds Village [Sic] at 70mph in a 40mph zone."

Using the hashtag NotBrandsHatch, it continued: "Vehicle stopped, checks showed SORN, No insurance, no MOT.

"Driver dealt with for all offences and vehicle seized."
