DETECTIVES investigating the discovery of a woman's body beside playing fields have confirmed that they are no longer treating her death as suspicious.

The partially decomposed body, thought to be that of a middle-aged woman, was found in undergrowth off Castle Road at Allington, near Maidstone, on Saturday afternoon.

Supt Steve Corbishley, deputy area commander for the Mid Kent Area, said: "I can confirm that police are no longer treating this incident as suspicious and our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy.

"Following the discovery of the body officers had to conduct extensive enquiries and search the area. As a result of this the Allington Community Centre had to postpone their fireworks evening.

"I would like to thank them for their support. The assistance offered by the community centre representatives was extremely helpful."

The dead woman has yet to be formally identified.
