A councillor has branded an incident of fly tipping as outrageous and brazen after spotting a mound of rubbish dumped at a junction.

Maidstone Borough Councillor Brian Clark came across the pile of what appears to be building waste at the intersection of Green butt Lane, Church Hill, Lower Fame Road, and Stilebridge Lane shortly before 8am this morning.

The pile contained timber, plasterboard, electrical parts, and even a door. A sofa was also left in a nearby ditch.

"It’s outrageous. Let’s face it, it's one thing to be as flippant as to do it in the countryside or in lay-bys but this was absolutely brazen," said the Liberal Democrat representative for South Ward.

"There were cars struggling to get around it and so I stood there and helped guide people around.

"Quite often when I’m travelling through the countryside I see detritus that's been dumped."

He also took to twitter to point out the shocking mess.

"As I’m a borough councillor I find that that team is very proactive at cleaning it up. I go past later on in the day and it’s done but it’s a nightmare with it blocking the road like that. Normally I don’t stop and take photos but on this one they needed to have a sense of it because it’s quite dramatic," he continued

"A lot of people complain saying ‘what are the council doing about fly tipping?’ but they do a great deal and there’s so much that they are under tremendous pressure."

Kent County Council, which is responsible for the clean-up of rubbish on roads, has been approached for comment on when it will be cleared.
