On April 19 Douglas broke into another newsagents in Weak Street between 4am and 4.12am.

In both incidents Douglas, of Hounslow Road, Feltham, Middlesex, gained entry to the shops by forcing the rear doors open.

He was later caught after officers investigating both offences identified him through CCTV and were able to connect him to both offences which resulted in his arrest.

After Douglas was jailed for two years and eight months Detective Constable Jeremy Chapman said: "Douglas thought he could come into the town and commit these crimes without being caught.

"He had no thought for the victims and was motivated by greed. He was spotted on CCTV and then subsequently linked to both crimes and I’m pleased he has received a custodial sentence.

"Crime does not pay and Kent Police will always investigate incidents thoroughly to ensure that justice is done."
