Violent burlgars who threatened to kill their victim and threw a pint glass at them have been jailed.

Jason Fergus and Terry Dampier used a rock to smash a window in Alexandra Street, Maidstone, while their victim and his partner were inside.

The glass covered one of those inside, while Fergus and Dampier stormed through the property's front door.

Once inside a pint glass was thrown, narrowly missing the victim, while Dampier destroyed a television by kicking it.

Both men threatened to hurt the victim, who managed to flee through an open window to safety.

Dampier's fingerprints were left on the broken pint glass, leading police to arrest both him and Fergus.

Fergus, who knew the victim, claimed he was owed money and an argument had escalated over text messages and on social media.

The 25-year-old of Barnhurst Road, Maidstone, also admitted making previous threats.

On December 9, 2017, three days prior to the incident involving him and Dampier, Fergus entered the same flat whilst the victim and his partner were asleep.

The victim told police he awoke to Fergus standing at the edge of his bed wearing a knuckle duster, eventually damaging a door inside the property.

Fergus pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm as well as further charges of assault and criminal damage.

On Monday he was jailed for two years and 14 weeks.

Dampier, 28, of York Road, Maidstone, admitted guilty with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

He was sentenced to two years in prison.

Det Sgt Jo Hazelwood led the investigation.

She said: "Fergus and Damper entered this property with the sole intention of carrying out a violent assault.

"Whilst their actions have thankfully not led to any serious injuries, these men will have undoubtedly caused considerable alarm and distress not only to the victim and his partner, but to neighbours and other residents living close-by."
