Council chiefs face a grilling tonight over two controversial decisions.
Plans for a replacement to the travel voucher scheme scrapped in April and the sale of a former park and ride site were both agreed by the cabinet members on Wednesday, July 9.
But four councillors have asked for the two issues to be discussed in depth at a meeting tonight .
Lib Dem councillors Clive English and Fran Wilson have raised concerns over plans to provide travel support for disabled people who are unable to use buses.
Although supportive of the scheme in principle, Cllr English and Wilson say there are serious unanswered questions about the financial risk, operational management and eligibility surrounding the proposed new scheme.
Lib Dem councillors Colin Parr and John Wilson have also called in a decision over the sale of the former Coombe Quarry park and ride site in Armstrong Road, Maidstone.
When the site was closed, it was agreed by the then environment cabinet member, Cllr Tony Harwood (Lib Dem), that any receipts from the sale would be invested into sustainable transport for the borough.
But the decision by the new cabinet specifies that the receipts should be invested to enable the delivery of the council’s current corporate priorities.
The meeting of the regeneration and sustainable communities overview and scrutiny committee to discuss both decisions will be held at 6.30pm in the Veranda Room, Oakwood House, Oakwood Park, Maidstone. Council leader Chris Garland (Con) and cabinet member for environment, Cllr Mark Wooding, will attend to discuss the reasons for the decision.
