Dramatic pictures have emerged of a car engulfed in flames.

A fire engine was set to the blaze, in Boxley Road, Penenden Heath, near Maidstone, at around 5.05pm yesterday.

A picture taken from the scene shows the vehicle fully alight, with masses of black smoke rising from it.

The fire was extinguished at around 5.45pm.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "Crews used main jets, hose reel jets, and compressed air foam to extinguish the blaze.

"No casualties were reported, and the fire is believed to have started accidentally."
