The unusual sight of a half-sunken car greeted walkers strolling along the banks of a lake in Maidstone this morning.

It's believed the Renault Megane was stolen and dumped in the middle of the beauty spot at Mote Park last night.

Posting on Facebook, Richard Bance, said he spotted the vehicle near Audley Mote House while walking his dog this morning. He said: "Oops. Mote Park Lake this morning. Don’t know why or what happened."

A spokesman for Kent Police said the vehicle is believed to have been stolen. They said: "The car has now been recovered and enquiries are ongoing."
