A care home resident's wish came true when her black and white wedding photos taken 63 years ago were transformed into colour thanks to an act of kindness by a member of staff.
June Willis, 89, from Invicta Court in Gidds Pond Way, felt it was a shame all her photographs from such a special day with her husband David were in black and white when speaking to Becky Lyons who works at the home.
Understanding just how important the photo was to June, Becky, a Lifestyle Coordinator, got in touch with a photo editing company that specialises in colourising old photos and arranged for June’s wedding snap to be retouched.
When she saw the surprise, June said she was 'delighted' and now keeps the picture on her wall to look at everyday.
Author and motivational speaker Adrian Webster from Bearsted heard about the gesture and decided to feature it in his new book ‘Tiny Noticeable Things’, which focuses on small acts that make big differences to people’s lives.
June said: "I was delighted with it and I am very pleased it’s going to be included in the new book.”
Jacqui Pompeus, Home Manager at Invicta Court, said: “June was thrilled when she saw the photograph for the first time and it was a pleasure to be able to make her wish come true.
“Here at Invicta Court, our team goes above and beyond to ensure residents live active and fulfilled lives and this often includes making wishes come true.
"We’re excited that Becky’s lovely gesture and June’s new and improved photograph will be featured in an upcoming book – we can’t wait to read all about it.”
The care home run by Care UK also made an emotional short Christmas film called 'Together Again' to raise spirits over the holidays.
