Maidstone's business community will find out in October who will be monitoring the town’s CCTV cameras.

In June 14 companies expressed an interest in bidding to oversee the town centre cameras, after it went out to tender.

Maidstone council initially planned to sign a contract with Medway Council, after an approach from the control centre in Strood, but, after pressure from the Kent Messenger and local businesses, cabinet member for community services, Cllr John A. Wilson (Con) agreed it should go out to tender to
give other firms the chance to bid.

An update on the process is to be considered by Maidstone council’s cabinet on Wednesday, October 12, when it will decide which bid to choose.

Maidstone council has not said how many firms had gone forward to the tendering process.
