Just a year after the controversial out-sourcing of Maidstone’s CCTV monitoring service to Medway, the basement control room at the town hall is being fitted out again.
But the borough council is at pains to says there is no possibility of the control function returning to the town.

The cost-saving move in April of last year is considered to have worked well despite fears that the service would deteriorate with the loss of local knowledge.
The monitoring operation is now based at the Medway centre but Maidstone has now installed two monitors and operating equipment at the town hall at a cost of £4,200.
A Maidstone council spokesman said: “The equipment at the town hall, which relays pictures to the control centre, has been upgraded as part of a our planned maintenance schedule.
“The emergency batteries and the uninterruptible power supply have been replaced,” he added.
“At the same time we have taken the opportunity to improve the existing facility to maintain the service in the unlikely event of a loss of connection between the town hall and Medway control.”
He added: “The transfer of the monitoring operation to the Medway control centre has been highly successful.
“We kept our experienced operators, the screens are monitored 24/7, there has been no loss of pictures, performance has been the same or better, and we have saved money.”
We are very satisfied with our partnership with Medway council and the monitoring operation is staying put where it is.”
