Kent's unsung heroes have been recognised for the positive part they play in the life of Kent, by the Queen’s representative in the county.
Hundreds of volunteers from youth and community organisations and charities were treated to tea and entertainment at the Kent Showground, Detling, by the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Allan Willett.
In a rallying cry, Mr Willett said: “These are extraordinary times nationally and globally. Change is so rapid, so bewildering that people feel insecure, like helpless bystanders. We need to encourage community spirit and a feeling of belonging and pride in our county.
“The people of Kent are courageous. In the current difficult and destabilising scenario, I believe people will turn more than ever to things they can understand and rely on - their roots, their heritage, their culture, their communities and their counties.”
He described the occasion as “a very special gathering of very special people”.
