Celebs show their football skills in Maidstone

Soap and reality show stars swapped the small screen for the pitch to help raise £2,600 for bereaved families.

Familiar faces from EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks and X Factor, pulled on their kit on Saturday to boost funds for the charity Once Upon a Smile, at the Gallagher Stadium.

EastEnders’ Alfie Moon, aka actor Shane Richie, was at the ground, off James Whatman Way, to support son, Shane Jnr, who was playing against Maidstone United X1.

He took his eyes off the game to greet hoards of fans on the hottest day of the year so far.

The town’s team celebrated an 8-2 win against the celebrity team, which was captained by Danny Miller of Emmerdale and Scott & Bailey fame.

The fixture was sponsored by Gallery Nightclub, in Bank Street, where some of the stars met party-goers on Saturday night.
